Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland will deliver the Liberal government’s federal budget on April 16, as cost-of-living concerns continue to dominate Canadian politics.
In a news release, Freeland stated that the government’s economic plan focuses on building more houses, making living more affordable, and generating employment.
The expenditure proposal comes at a time when high interest rates are slowing the economy and increasing economic constraints on the Liberal administration.
Freeland recently underlined her support for new fiscal guardrails adopted in the autumn to reduce deficits.
The federal government vowed in the autumn that the current fiscal year’s deficit would not exceed what was forecast.
According to the Finance Department, the government deficit for the current fiscal year was $23.6 billion at the end of December.
