Layoffs Hit California: Apple Initiates Major job cut in Post-Pandemic Restructuring.

Apple is cutting off over 600 workers in California, marking its first wave of post-pandemic job cuts, amid tech industry consolidation. The move, effective on May 27, was announced by 614 employees in multiple offices.

Workers were removed from eight Santa Clara offices under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), but the specific departments or projects involved remain unclear. Apple has not commented on the situation.

Cupertino, California-based tech company has remained relatively stable despite a significant workforce reduction during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the fact that the industry remains larger than before the pandemic, and companies are now focusing on cost reduction.

Apple reported 161,000 full-time equivalent employees in a regulatory filing. Amazon announced a new round of layoffs at AWS. Other companies cutting their workforce include Electronic Arts, Sony, Cisco Systems, and Snap, which has slashed 10% of its global workforce. Other recent layoffs include Sony, Sony, and Cisco Systems.
