US Inflation broadly slows in sign of progress for Fed

US inflation has slowed down, with the core consumer price index (CPI), which excludes food and energy costs, increasing 0.2% from September. This is a better indicator of underlying inflation than the overall CPI, which has stalled due to cheaper gasoline. Despite some bumps in recent months, inflation has settled substantially from a 40-year high reached last year. This has led to several Fed policymakers signaling they may be done raising interest rates, but Chair Jerome Powell has repeatedly stressed the central bank could hike again if needed. Stock futures rose and Treasury yields declined as traders assessed the probability of another rate hike in December. The advance in the core measure reflected increases in rent, motor-vehicle insurance, and recreation.

The company’s earnings rose to Rs 1,024.86 crore in the three months ending September from Rs 885.65 crore a year earlier. However, the company’s net profit declined 38% from Rs 1,661.04 crore in the first quarter. The company’s revenue from operations rose by 20% to Rs 4,013.98 crore in the September quarter.
