Wednesday – May 22

RBNZ Policy Decision

The RBNZ is expected to maintain its Official Cash Rate at 5.50%, aiming for a 1-3% inflation target. The market anticipates policy easing in August, with the central bank not expected to normalize policy before 2025.

UK CPI

The UK CPI Y/Y is expected to be 2.1%, while the Core CPI is 3.7%. The BoE’s focus on services inflation will impact market expectations, potentially leading to a June rate cut.

FOMC Minutes

The FOMC Minutes are not typically market-moving due to the market already knowing what to expect and becoming stale with more data. The QT tapering could have been included in the Minutes, but it’s not a significant deal.
