The Bank of Japan raised its key short-term interest rate to 0% to 0.1% on March 19, ending eight years of negative rates and reshaping market expectations, as per the meeting minutes.

US FHFA house price index
The US FHFA house price index rose from 417.43 points in November 2023 to 417.85 points in December, with data for January awaited.
US durable goods orders fell 6.1% in January, following a 0.3% decrease in December. February figures will be released soon.

Thursday – March 28
US GDP Investors are closely monitoring the quarterly US GDP data due on March 28. The economy grew 3.2% in the October-December quarter of 2023, compared to the previous estimate of 3.3 percent. The full year growth for 2023 is expected to be 2.5 percent, compared to the previous year’s 1.9%.
The UK’s GDP contracted by 0.3% in Q4 2023, following a 0.1% decline in Q3. The final Q4 GDP growth rate is yet to be determined.
US Initial Jobless Claims: The US unemployment rate decreased by 1,000 to 209,000 in the week ending March 8, with the numbers for the week ending March 16 yet to be announced.
